Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys Receives $30,000 Donation to Support Palliative Care Services

The Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys (VNA/HFK) received $30,000 from the Ocean Reef Community Foundation in support for the agency’s Upper Keys Palliative Care initiative, which is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2017.

This launch will also occur in conjunction with a company-wide “Advance Care Planning” initiative spearheaded by their central Florida affiliate, Haven Hospice.

“The Ocean Reef Community Foundation has been a tremendous supporter of our mission of care,” said VNA/HFK Director of Development Kim Sovia-Crandon. During the past two years alone, the Ocean Reef Community Foundation has now donated a total $62,000 toward our palliative care project goal to bring these specialized services to the Upper Keys and to Ocean Reef.”

VNA/HFK has provided palliative care services to the Lower Keys since 2012 due to the generosity of the Helmerick Foundation grant. VNA/HFK’s Palliative Care interdisciplinary team works to address the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of seriously ill patients and to ensure that patients receive health care that is aligned with their values and preferences.
